On Sunday 8 June 2008 Mercy Hospice Auckland hosted its annual “Degustation Brunch’. Master of Ceremonies was Lauraine Jacobs from Cuisine Magazine and Auctioneer, “let’s talk wine” John Hawkesby. 450 foodies and wine lovers purchased tickets to this event which sold out six weeks prior.

Ten of Auckland’s most prestigious restaurants joined together to produce a wide selection of entrée sized meals in a host of different flavors. Each dish was expertly matched to fine wines brought to you from the cellars of 10 top NZ Wineries.

The Hyatt ballroom looked spectacular with yellow and white flowers in huge martini glasses. When you were replenished with the delicious food and delectable wines an amazing live auction was held to tempt you even further resulting in the huge sum of $215,000.00 being raised. All of the proceeds from this day go directly toward patient care.

Mercy Hospice is viewed as a centre of excellence, not only by the patients and their families, but also by associated Health Professionals. Many people do not realize Mercy Hospice Auckland is only partly funded by the Auckland District Health Board and that this year we must raise $2million net from our community. Currently we care for more that 900 patients and their families, sadly this number continues to increase therefore events such as the above are vital for the continuation of palliative care.
